Dr. Timothy Whalen is no stranger to the quad cities and was at the APS Florence office from 2006 to 2015. Before that, he worked for 10 years in private practice in Maryland and five years in public psychiatry serving the residents of coastal North Carolina. He finished his training in psychiatry at John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, after completing medical school at Ohio State University. Dr. Whalen served his internship at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio in family practice. Dr. Timothy Whalen practices child, adolescent, and adult psychiatry in the Muscle Shoals office of IBH. He enjoys working with families and patients of all ages.

Dr. Luke Chiou joined IBH after completing his Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2021. He graduated from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Bradenton, FL and trained at Centerstone Behavioral Health Center in Bradenton, FL for this General Psychiatry Residency. He was a moonlighting physician at Life Management Center in Panama City, Fl. Dr. Chiou emphasizes treating the patient as a whole with particular focus on the biological and psychosocial factors in order to optimize treatment and recovery.

Andrea began her career in the field of Social Work in 2001. She a Licensed Clinical Therapist in Alabama and Florida. Often people develop maladaptive forms of coping that creates a negative belief system. Left untreated, this negative thought process can lead to symptoms of depression and anxiety. Utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as well as Solution Focused Therapy, Andrea works with clients to help them develop the ability to recognize the relationship between thoughts, feelings and beliefs that impact their mood. He was published at the annual Conference on Suicide at Utah Valley University for his work on the Intersectionality of Spirituality, Veterans, and Suicidality. Dalton is eager to work with those clients looking to begin treating depression, anxiety, trauma, personality disorders, psychosis, and shame. Dalton is trained in EMDR through EMDRIA and is actively utilizing this modality. He is trained in Internal Family Systems Theory to help those clients who feel they have competing parts within themselves. Additional modalities that are used include Solution Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Couples Therapy, Trauma Informed Approach, and the use of Motivational Interviewing. As Brene Brown states, “We need to lean into the discomfort. Leaning into it actually helps you to eventually push through”. Together we can work to lean into the discomfort and develop the skills to help push through the challenges and discover the authentic version of yourself.

During my time in the field, I have had the privilege of working with people from all walks of life. I started my professional career working with pre-school age children up to age 18. In 2019, I moved to Central Louisiana, where I worked with ages 5-to late adulthood. I have worked with situations including but not limited to depression and anxiety disorders, grief and loss, ADHD, oppositional defiance, anger management, behavioral modification, intermittent explosive disorder, social deficits, learning disabilities, and autism spectrum disorders. I have experience with many modalities of treatment including but not limited to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person-Centered Therapies, Solution-Focused, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy. I had experience as a site supervisor to Bachelor’s level and Master’s level therapists during my employment at Phoenix Family Life Center in Louisiana. I have a passion for helping others and look forward to helping clients and patients find their empowerment and strength within themselves.
