Dr. Ryan Joy, D.O.
Cullman Clinic: Monday-Wednesday
Decatur Clinic: Thursday-Friday
Dr. Joy grew up in Hartselle, and it has long been his desire to return and serve the mental health needs of north Alabama. He received his medical degree from the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his 3rd year psychiatric clinical rotations with Dr. Mahaffey and Malhotra at IBH. He then went on to complete a General Psychiatry Residency at the University of Florida where he gained experience in treating a multitude of psychiatric disorders across an array of settings including inpatient, outpatient, residential facilities, forensic facilities, and VA facilities. He specializes in the treatment of depressive disorders, bipolar disorders, anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, neurodevelopmental disorders (ADHD), PTSD, and behavioral manifestations of dementia. Various modalities of treatment he has experience with include medication management, psychodynamic psychotherapy, and neuromodulation. A few hobbies he enjoys include playing golf, watching sports (particularly the Crimson Tide), cooking, and experiencing the magic of Walt Disney World with his wife and two daughters!

Marcus, PMHNP

Marcus is a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner who has spent his whole nursing career working in the mental health field. Marcus received his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Samford University in 2019 and has worked inpatient as an RN and charge nurse at Grandview Medical Center and the Center for Psychiatric Medicine at UAB. He received his Master of Science degree in Nursing in 2023 from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, specializing in psychiatric mental health. In his free time Marcus enjoys cooking and baking with his spouse, and gardening with his two dogs, Frankie and Bailey.

Benjamin is a certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with a master’s degree from the University of South Alabama and a Bachelor’s in Nursing from Jacksonville State University. He has worked as a RN for 9 years with experience in med-surg, CCU, ER, and behavioral health. He served in the United States Army and Army National Guard with a total of 8 years and 2 active-duty tours. His experience in the Army has led to a passion for treating Veterans, PTSD, Anxiety, Depression, etc. Benjamin also has a passion for helping children, as he has five of his own, and know how crucial it is for early intervention. Even though he is passionate about those areas, he enjoys helping his patients from any background or age to achieve the best mental health possible. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and 5 children, watching the Braves, and woodworking.

Christina has worked in  community mental heath, co-occurring substance abuse and mental health, foster care, parenting training, adolescent, and residential settings. Christina received her MSW from West Virginia University and is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker.

Leslie has over ten years of experience in the social services and behavioral mental health fields. Leslie began her career with Cullman County DHR as a Social Service Case manager/Financial Support Worker working with both children and adults. During this time Leslie received a Master of Social Work from the University of Alabama in 2014 and a Masters of Rehabilitation Counseling in 2018. Leslie is currently pursuing a doctoral degree from the University of Alabama in Counselor Education. Leslie also has several years of experience working in an acute inpatient hospital behavioral medicine unit, outpatient mental day treatment programs for children and adolescents, and home health. Leslie specializes in CBT and developmental behavioral approaches and believes that everyone is an expert in their owns lives. Leslie approaches the therapeutic relationship with the philosophy that therapy should be a collaborative process between therapist and client that provides both an empathetic and safe environment to meet the unique needs of the individual. Leslie has a passion for counseling those with infertility, trauma, grief, depression, developmental, and parenting/ family issues in adults and children.
