Stephen K. Bell, Ph.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist with a child – adolescent specialty. His therapy includes primarily cognitive-behavioral approaches with technical eclecticism as needed with a strong emphasis on the therapeutic relationship. He recognizes the relationship between spirituality and psychological wellness.

Dr. Bell completed Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in accounting at Auburn in 1991, a psychology concentration at Georgia State in 1994, and a doctor of philosophy degree (Ph.D.) at The University of Memphis in 2001. He completed internship and post-doctoral training at the University of Florida Health Sciences Center.

In addition to clinical practice, he has conducted research for presentation at professional meetings and publication in pediatric psychology journals in affiliation with UAB and offers a number of public education programs. He has provided training for psychology and medical students from UF, UAB, UGA, and BSU. Dr. Bell coordinated research on Parent: Child Interaction Therapy at the UF Child Study Laboratory and often implements this approach with children ages 3 to 8 and their parents.

Dr. Bell was a member of the executive council of the Alabama Psychological Association, served as the chair for the state board of ethics on psychology, and as president of the Birmingham Regional Association of Licensed Psychologists. Dr. Hadley is board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in General Psychiatry. She provides expert-level medication management for a number of mental health conditions. Dr. Hadley earned her medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine, where she was part of the Medical Scientist Training Program, which allowed her to simultaneously complete her medical doctorate (M.D.) and a doctorate degree (Ph.D.) in biomedical engineering. Her dissertation research explored the use of resting-state fMRI to predict treatment outcomes in patients suffering from severe psychiatric illness; she has authored a number of scientific articles on this and other topics. After completing her graduate degrees, she continued at UAB for Psychiatry Residency Training with a special focus on Psychotherapy. As part of her training in Psychotherapy, she attended didactics with the child and adolescent fellows, took on additional psychotherapy cases with extra supervision, and became proficient in administering and interpreting projective testing (including the Rorschach and the Tasks of Emotional Development [TED] tests). During her training, she expanded her research interests to include quality improvement and the application of Lean/Six Sigma methodologies to healthcare. As a resident, she received the 2018 Resident Leadership Award and was part of the team that won the 12th Annual MindGames competition at the American Psychiatry Association’s 2018 Annual Meeting in New York City, NY. Dr. Hadley’s clinical interests include working with the following populations/treatment modalities:

  1. Patients diagnosed with complex mood disorders, including so-called “treatment-resistant” depression and bipolar-spectrum disorders.
  2. Use of monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) and tricylic antidepressants (TCAs), when indicated.
  3. Patients experiencing symptoms of ADHD across their lifespan.
  4. Patients suffering from OCD.
  5. Women in the prenatal and perinatal periods, and during preconception planning.
  6. Transitional-aged youth (ages 12 to 30+) as they navigate their transition into adulthood.
  7. Patients experiencing impairment from personality disorders.
  8. Patients who are themselves part of the medical community (physicians, nurses, therapists, etc.

Whitnee is a doctorally prepared, dually board-certified nurse practitioner in family practice and psychiatric mental health. Dr. Brown is a three-time graduate of Troy University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) Family Nurse Practitioner Track, and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP). She earned her post-doctorate certification in Psychiatric Mental Health at The University of Alabama. She is the author of many peer-reviewed publications and the co-author of a Sigma Theta Tau International publication. Her research focuses on health promotion and wellness in underserved populations through technology.

Before becoming a nurse practitioner, Whitnee spent more than half a decade caring for patients in oncology. She has been a nurse practitioner since 2015. She has maintained her practice while caring for the disabled veteran population outpatient, serving in dermatology, working inpatient with a local hospitalist service as well as working in outpatient clinics in psychiatric mental health while treating patients across the lifespan. She is an advocate for community wellness and committed to providing comprehensive care and reducing stigma.

Whitnee holds local and state officer positions, serving as the Membership Chairperson for the Central Alabama Nurse Practitioner Association. She actively serves on the policy committee for The Nurse Practitioner Alliance of Alabama.
